Port of Mobile Master Plan: As part of a larger team, Martin Associates completed the economic impact analysis of the Port of Mobile. This model was used to rank alternative development scenarios.

Global Opportunities Study, 2014:

Martin Associates completed a study regarding the potential opportunities facing the Florida Seaports, and developed logistics strategies to capture additional import and export cargo moving to and from Florida via Florida ports. These strategies include the development of a distribution center logistics strategy, an ocean carrier strategy and a strategy directed at beneficial cargo owners.

Martin Associates conducted an analysis of the economic and competitive impact imposed on the Port of Brunswick, Georgia by the restrictive Sidney Lanier Bridge for the Georgia Ports Authority. The results of this study were successfully used to obtain state funding for a full‑scale engineering study of the cost of replacing or modifying the bridge.

Financial Assessment and Economic Impact of NASCO’s Operation at Iroquois Landing – In 2013, Martin Associates examined the historical financial performance of the North America Stevedoring Company’s (NASCO) terminal operation at the Port of Chicago.

Port of Chicago Strategic Market Review – Martin Associates conducted a marketing review and analysis in 2003 for the Illinois International Port District (Port of Chicago). The study examined the Port’s competitive position in traditional lines of business and identified opportunities within these current business lines and potential others.

Logistics/Fleet Deployment Strategy

Port of Cleveland Liner Feasibility Study: This analysis focuses on the markets that can be served by a liner service calling the Port of Cleveland. the CCPA entered into an agreement with Dutch company Spliethoff Group and in April 2014, a monthly service between Cleveland and Antwerp began.

Master Plan

Cleveland-Cuyahoga County Port Authority Master Plan: Martin Associates directed the comprehensive master plan for the Port of Cleveland in 2012. The analysis included the development of detailed market projections, development of terminal capacity measures, development of a port-wide master plan to accommodate growth in specific traditional markets and accommodate additional development of waterfront property to be used as flexible space for cargo and non-cargo uses. The plan also evaluated the impact of limitations of the dredge spoils disposal areas, and identified strategies to optimize existing sites to accommodate future maintenance dredging requirements.

Port of Cleveland Market and Feeder Study: Martin Associates completed a market study of the potential to develop a container feeder service between Halifax and Cleveland.

Port of Galveston Marine Terminal Valuation – Martin Associates developed an overall terminal valuation study for the Port of Galveston, TX. The results of the study were used to assess future capital requirements and define a role for private sector investment in the Port.

Economic Impact Study: Martin Associates conducted an economic impact study during 2010-2012 for the Port of Goderich as part of a larger impact study of 32 U.S. and Canadian ports along the Great Lakes.

Port of Cincinnati Market Assessment – Martin Associates was retained by the Port of Greater Cincinnati Development Authority to provide a recommendations for the Port to grow. It first assessed the market potential for non-containerized waterborne cargoes that would be loaded and/or discharged at river terminals within the Port’s jurisdiction. Secondly, the analysis focused on identifying non-waterborne containerized cargoes that originate in and/or are destined for the region and utilize the greater Cincinnati transportation assets such as rail and highway infrastructure.

Strategic Market Plan

Martin Associates developed the strategic plan for the Port of Lake Charles in 2009. A key part of the study was a detailed analysis of each of the Port’s lines of business, including a financial analysis. Recommendations were made to discontinue operating specific lines of business and develop a private-landlord operation of specific lines of business that the Port could no longer operate profitably. The value of the terminal for a private investor/terminal operator was then estimated.

Port of Providence Master Plan: Martin Associates completed a master plan study for the Port of Providence and the State of Rhode Island, which operates the Port of Davisville. Martin Associates completed a feasibility analysis of the development of a transshipment hub in Ireland with a focus on bulk cargoes. The transshipment hub would capitalize on the deep water draft of a port site in Ireland, with the ability to receive very large bulk ships carrying ores, fertilizers, etc. The bulk material would be off-loaded and stored as needed with future distribution on smaller feeder vessels into European ports with restricted draft as well as restricted bulk storage areas.
